The Escarra Group hosted nine middle school students from Paul Habans Charter School as part of the LightLab Summer Research Experience from 6/19/17 through 6/23/17. The LightLab program is a unique research opportunity for young scholars and was funded in part by Prof. Escarra’s National Science Foundation CAREER award that he received earlier this year.

The visiting students worked in the lab for a week in groups of two or three, and each group was mentored by one or more Escarra Lab members while they did original research. The students finally presented their findings in the last day of the program in front of invited guests including a teacher from Paul Habans and administrators from Crescent City Schools.

The students will present their findings again in front of their class when school resumes later this year to raise further interest among other students who weren’t able to join in this year. The Escarra Lab plans to make this a tradition for years to come.
