Kazi Islam is from Khulna, Bangladesh. He became a member of the Escarra Research Group immediately after joining Tulane in the Fall of 2015 and successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis on December 1, 2020. His primary research interest lies in different aspects of photovoltaic solar cells. Currently, he is working on the fabrication and characterization of 2D materials and exploring the possibilities to utilize them as active layers in solar cells. Also, he is working in the FOCUS project, sponsored by ARPA-E, to develop novel transparent solar cells and modules. Kazi is an optimistic person and apart from research, he enjoys travelling and outdoor activities.
Favorite things about New Orleans: The weather, especially ‘rain’ which is very similar to Bangladesh and of course, the FOOD, CULTURE and the easygoing attitude of the people here.
